State Representative Brad Halbrook Joins Lawsuit Over Gun Ban Law

Shelbyville, Illinois:  On Thursday, January 26, 2023, Republican State Representative Brad Halbrook signed onto a lawsuit filed by his Republican colleague State Rep. Dan Caulkins and two other entities against Governor Pritzker, Attorney General Kwame Raoul, Senate President Don Harmon and Speaker of the House Chris Welch.  The lawsuit challenges the constitutionality of the recently passed gun law that prohibits the sale of certain commonly used firearms and requires a gun registry among other things.  Brad Halbrook filed the lawsuit in his personal capacity outside of his official position.

“The Democrats are turning this state into a dictatorship, but their power ends where my constitutional rights begin. Their control of all matters of policy does not extend to their control of my Second Amendment rights.  Unfortunately, in this state, I have no other recourse to protect those rights than to file a lawsuit in court to preserve them.

We all want the violence to stop. But, even the Democrats know that their new gun ban law will be ignored by criminals possessing illegal guns already. The political pandering must stop and families need to be the focus of intervention before violence occurs.”
